Water Building Resort – Green Project

The Solar-Powered Water Drop Building Produces Drinking Water from  Air

The Resort is the first building that transforms Air into Water powered by a facade of building integrated photovoltaics, the mixed-use structure designed by Orlando de Urrutia & Asociados Architects is shaped to resemble a water drop. The idea is to use TeexMicron technology to convert Qatar’s humid air into potable water.

The technique is nothing but a combination of technology and nature. A photovoltaic glass made southerly facing facade will harness the required solar energy and let light to pass through. Conversely, the northern façade includes a latticed ventilation design and utilizes Teex Micron equipment to convert humid air into pure drinking water through condensation. Their production is based on the condensation of the humidity that is in the air, its location in the water of the sea, add a big value regarding a bigger condensation., allowing to take advantage a daily evaporation and the night condensation.

The use of the building is  dedicated to a Resort with an Acuarium, Restaurants, Gyms, Hotel, Spa service, Congresses, Conferences and permanents or itinerant Exhibitions rooms. Whose main dedications (among other) they will be thematic related with the universe of the Water, the environment and the renewable energy, their use, solutions, supplies, use and investigation (I+D).The building also harbors a Center of technological investigation (Cidemco) which will control certifications of industrial product of quality.

Orlando de Urrutia, architect, has first published a video of this project in 2009 and it has recently hit the blogosphere , which may be appropriate as Qatar and Dubai’s real estate market are picking up again and water is always a sensitive subject throughout  the entire Middle East. That´s was his speech on the last edition of the Hotel Experience held in Barcelona in May 2014.
